Once upon a time, way back in 2005, we (Jennifer and Becky) met as co-workers.
We became fast friends, bonding through tons of laughter, sometimes tears, and our shared love for tuna melts and 90s hip-hop. Over the next two years, we recognized our individual talents and realized we shared a true gift for documenting and preserving life's irreplaceable moments. We honestly never set out to be business owners -neither of us had that inclination. But we did have a passion for treating clients as friends and creating a photographic style of our own: "photography with heart." Picsee had very humble beginnings. Our first "studio" was literally a two-desk set up in Becky's small bonus room. We photographed over 100 families that first year and didn't charge a single session fee! We concentrated on building our portfolio and perfecting our "look," but when prints, canvases, books and holiday cards eventually overtook the kitchen table, we knew it was time for a true studio space.

That dream was realized at the start of 2009 with our tiny studio on Commerce...which, in less than one year's time, grew into a slightly bigger studio on Market! Through our clients' generous word-of-mouth referrals we doubled our number of sessions, hired another photographer, and appointed Jennifer's sister Cristy to Studio Manager to help control the chaos behind the scenes. 2010 brought even more growth with yet another photographer, another Market Street studio space (our biggest), and a handful of accolades and awards. We were so busy (and SO grateful for it), but over the next few years we were operating at what we know now was an unsustainable pace. By 2013, our additional photographers had exited to concentrate on their families, and it was time for us to regroup. Y'all, this is when we learned the lesson of quality over quantity, and that bigger does NOT necessarily mean better. It was so obvious to the three of us that we'd lost focus on the important things, the "heart," the reason why we had created Picsee in the first place! This business is about legacy, not "likes." Things don't have to be perfectly posed to be perfectly documented. Staging doesn't equal significance.

So, for the last 10 years it's been just the three of us, the ideal trio it was always meant to be, and it's simply amazing, this trail we've blazed together. We downsized to our cozy home at 101 Cherokee Street back in 2017, and we adore our jobs every single day. We have been blessed to document so many milestones and seasons of life on this journey! Some of you have been with us from the beginning, some we've only just met, and hopefully there are many more to meet in the future! We are successful because of YOU, and from the bottoms of our hearts, we thank you so much. The three of us often joke that we'll be ready to retire when we are photographing the children of our current newborns...but honestly, we hope it's longer.
